Fears and Phobias

 Definitions

'Faer' is an ancient English word meaning 'sudden danger', and apparent danger inspires fear. Phobus is the name of the Greek god who could strike terror into the minds of victims and drive the into the clutches of the god Pan - who would strike victims with uncontrollable behaviour - a Panic attack.

 What do we know?

 According to statistics - one in nine people have a phobia of some sort;

                                      one in twenty have a panic attack at some time in their lives.

 Trauma, association with trauma, and avoidance,  of people or situations, trigger phobias.

 We are born with two fears - that is, fear of falling, and fear of loud noises. Any other fears are not innate, but learned fears. Therefore we can learn new responses to these.

 |How does it work?

  It works through tackling both the cause and the symptoms of the phobia. If we change the attitude from one of fight or flight to one of a relaxed  response, we remove the fear.Regression is used to identify the root cause of the phobia;  Traumatic Incident Recovery may be necessary to deal with post traumatc stress; Eye Movement Therapy is used to remove trauma; Emotional Freedom Techniques are used to change trauma into positivity; and Neuro Linguistic Programming is used to change attitudes - these are explained above in services.

 Past Life Regression is also used, if necessary, to uncover fears that seem hidden from one's experience. If we cannot find a root cause of a phobia in everyday experience, we may need to look for it elsewhere. This is not a frivilous exercise, but a tool that is used to facilitate change.
