Blog
The news section acts as a blog of facts and scientific discoveries that have some relevance to the field. Of course hypnotherapy, and the clinical use of hypnosis is not confined to West London. Health Related Issues are constantly in the news. Please send your contributions to MtthH@aol.com. We will try to publish them. The Daily Mail reports, in October 2010, on hypnotherapy being a good way to deal with relieving stress and mental health issues. It says " your subconscious mind is the storehouse for everything you are... your conscious mind is constantly checking this storehouse, reminding itself of how to be you. Hypnosis can access the power of your unconscious mind, putting in new information, tied into goals you want to acheive - boosting confidence, breaking bad habits and keeping you focused on your goals" Hypnoanaesthesia - The media reports, in April, 08, that a hypnotist had an 83 minute operation on his arm with no anaesthetic, by putting himself into trance. This is a skill that almost everybody can learn. The procedure has been used to ease fears over surgery and chidbirth, and to help burn victims manage their pain. NLP The Sunday Telegraph reorts, in Feb 10, that teachers are being trained in NLP techniques in order to understand the body language of pupils and build rapport with them. Effective hypnosis can help to build this understanding, and therefore raise the confidence of teachers.
Fear of Flying The Telegraph reports, in October 08, that numbers of people asking for drugs to calm their nerves, before flying, had increased due to the "war on terror". Hypnotherapy can help here, the wonderful systematic desensitisation, taught in Hypnosis, is tremendously powerful in conquering these fears. Matthew has given successful therapy to people with only a few hours to go before fearless flying. Bella magazine, in July 2010, featured an article on using Emotional Freedom Technique to conquer fear of flying. This can be provided through Effective Hypnosis. The Metro reports, in June 2011, on Aerophobia, recommending hypnotherapy. The Mail reports, in October 08, on how a person's mild anxiety led to full blown panic attacks. Hypnosis can help to control irrational feelings, leading to positive change. The Media reports, in August 09, that hypnotherapists were working at Chessington World of Adventures, to help parents overcome their fears of roller coaster rides. Alcohol The Telegraph reports, in May 2008, that 800, 000 a year are being admitted to hospital through alcohol misuse. Hypnosis can help people to take control of their addictions. The Telegraph reports, in August 08, that a third of all men, and one fifth of all women are consuming in excess of the recommended limits - leading to 15, 000 dying each year due to excess alcohol. As part of the government's "Know your limits " campaign, a survey was conducted, in the summer of 2008, to find out the main reasons for drinking. Socialising with friends was cited as the main reason, but coping with stress was a close second - with 39% 0f men, and 32% of women stating stress was the main reason they drank. Not so much of a problem for many, but if people find that they just can't cope without a drink, then therapy may be a positive alternative. The Telegraph reports, in Otober 08, that 10 million people are drinking at danger levels, in the UK. The daily Mail reports, in November 08, that binge drinking will lead to a sharp rise in dementia cases for many. The Mail on Sunday reports, in June 09, that women are at more risk of liver failure in social drinking, through trying to keep up with men's levels of drinking. The danger point is 35 units of alcohol for women, but 50 units a week for men. If women try to do this on a regular basis, then they may suffer. The media reports, in July 09, that 11, 000 children are being treated in the UK for addictions to alcohol and drugs - just imagine how many more children are addicted to cigarettes. Effective Hypnosis can help. The Telegraph reports, in August 09, that oral cancers have risen by an average of 25% over the last ten years - this is attributed mostly to alcohol, although smoking and diet also get mentioned as causes. Now, we don't want to spoil anyone's fun, but hypnosis can help people control their drinking. TheTelegraph reports, in April 2010, that binge drinking in teenage girls leads to later development of breast cancer. The Mail reports, in August 2010, that young people are drinking far too much - and lists the risks. Smoking The Telegraph reports, in January 2012, that many ex smokers believe that one cigarette a day will not be the same as an addiction. But in fact all that is needed to maintain the addiction is one smoke every three days. Call us for a permanant change. The Daily Mail reports, on 9th January 2012, that most people will give up their new year resolutions today. They suggest that 60% of a survey want to lose weight, and a third wanted to stop smoking, but now will fail. effective Hypnosis would like to help people make a permanent change, so that those resolutions become a way of life - call 01895 810772, and make the change. The Hollywood actor, Ben Affleck, said that he had given up a twenty year habit of smoking with hypnosis, on the Oprah TV show, in January 08. Time magazine, in association with CNN, put out a health feature in the first week of Febuary 08, reporting on the World Health Organisation's prediction that smoking will kill one billion people by the end of the century. Don't be part of this statistic, give up with effective hypnosis. The Archives of Internal Medicine, published in Feb 08, stated that people can live an extra 20 years by stopping smoking. We, at Effective Hypnosis, feel that this is too broad a statement. If people want to smoke, they have to exercise, and look after their body in order to survive. Of course, we would rather they gave up with us. The Telegraph reports, in May 08, on research at Harvard Medical School, in Boston, showing the benefits of stopping smoking. These are reported to appear quickly, lessening risks of hjeart disease, strokes and lung cancer within the first few years. The Telegraph reports, in May 08, that the link between cancer and tobacco was played down by the Mcmillan government, in 1956, due to worries about loss of tax income. At EFFECTIVE HYPNOSIS we believe that smokers will always seek to justify their habit, until they have had a change of heart. Hypnotherapy helps create this mindshift. The Mail reports, in June 08, that the number of heart attacks has gone down significantly since the ban on smoking in public places, in July 07. The media reports, in July 08, that the BMA asking for a film censor's certificate to be added to films that contain actors smoking. They feel that the image of smoking is being portrayed as 'too cool'. We feel that this may do something to influence those who are about to start smoking. But, once the physical addiction is there, this is what will keep people smoking, not the image. Hypnotherapy is an excellant method of removing BOTH the physical, and the psychological addiction. Addiction journal reported, in August 08, that people could be addicted from the first puff of their first cigarette, owing to research at the Michigan Medical School. At EFFECTIVE HYPNOSIS we believe we can change this, and that the change will be permanant. Skyport, the airports journal, reported in August 08, that half a dozen people have been sacked in the past month for smoking in Heathrow airport premises. Giving up could save your career. The Sun also reports, in November 08, that the army is axing 12 soldiers a week for drug use. Giving up with our addictions programme could be the answer. Figures of statistics have been published, in August 08, showing that the number of teenagers admitted to hospital due to alcohol abuse rose by 51% since 2000 - from 8411 to12, 682. During the same period there was a 41% rise in admissions due to heavy smoking. It doesn't have to be this way. Effective hypnosis can teach the tools needed to conquer addictions The Telegraph reports, in September 08, that 1930's film stars were paid to smoke certain brands in their films. We want to know if these stars got ill as a result, and how many people were influenced by this to start smoking. The Daily Mail reports, in September 08, that cigarette packets are to portray damaged lungs, in order to get the health message across. We feel that this may be effective in stopping some people from starting - but once they are addicts they will need more than this to stop. The London Metro reports, in October 08, that researchers at the University of Melbourne had found that women smokers were more likely to be depressed, than non smokers. We feel that there may be some cultural issues here, but look forward to seeing the research. Lisa Scott from the Metro reports, in March 09 that smoking just isn't fashionable anymore - and gives two reports on how smokers gave up with hypnotherapy.
The Telegraph reports, in December 08, that a new survey says 4/5 smokers are addicted to the habit of smoking rather than to the substance of nicotine. Hypnosis can release them from this addiction, and stamp out smoking forever. The Mail reports, in March 09, that ex smokers who exercise are less likely to start again. Researchers at Exeter University showed that a chemical was released that stopped the craving. The Mail reports, in May 09, that research in Switzerland has suggested that women are at a far greater risk of developing lung cancer than men - with fewer cigarettes. It could be time to stop. The Mail on Sunday reports, in January 2011, that researcher at Dartmouth college had shown that smokers who see smoking in movies start to subconsciously rehearse the physical movements of smoking, and therefore want to smoke when they leave the cinema. The research, reported in the Journal of Neuroscience, implies that people who want to giveup are put at a disadvantage by screen smoking, as it triggers subconscious reactions. Hypnotherapy can help to remove these subconscious desires. .
The Daily Mail reports, in August 09, on research from the University of Minnesota, stating that smoking in middle age increases the risk of developing Alzeimer's disease. So, before it happens, don't forget to ring Effective Hypnosis. The Daily Mail reports, in September 09, on recent research at Massachusetts General Hospital Boston. Professor Jonathon Winicoff says that cigarette smoke in the carpets and futrnitire could harm nonsmokers and babies though 'third hand smoking'. The Daily Telegraph reports, in December 2010, that smokers are to be given free nicotine patches on the NHS. We welcome this initiative, but would point out that we have actully treated people for addiction to these patches. They can be successful, but they do maintain addiction to nicotine. Therefore we recommend that people try the Effective Hypnosis service - to rid themselves of addiction.
A government think tank has concluded that each cigarette smoked costs the taxpayer 6.5p in health spending and lost productivity to the economy. They state that tax on tabacco raises £10 Billion a year, but the cost of health care and other consequences is £13.74 billion. They have called for a five per cent increase in duty - 23p on a pack of twenty in the March 2010 budget. The Royal College of Physicians called for smoking to be banned in cars, due to worries about children's passive smoking, in March 2010. The Telegraph reports on a survey published in Addictions magazine, in April 2010, stating that the IQ's of smokers were lower than in non smokers. We don't mean to carp, because it can be taken two ways - that people start because they have low IQs, or that they have low IQs as a result of smoking. But, if we know that people's reflexes get faster, as a result of quitting; their concentration improves; and their whole attitude to life improves - then it makes sense to quit. Addiction journal reports, in June 2010, that giving up smoking reduces stress levels, so nicotine does not relax anyone. Most smokers believe that smoking calms the nerves, but as a stimulant, it can't. The only calming of nerves is relief from withdrawal symptoms. Dr. Hajak, of Bart's and London School of Medicine and Dentistry, found that there was a 20% reduction in stress levels in those who had given up. This suggests that stopping smoking has benefits for both health and mental well being. Cannabis In September 08 the Mail on Sunday produces an item about mothers against cannabis. It stated that 80% of the cannabis seized in Britain today is skunk (25% stronger than ealier cannabis). Skunk users are 18 times more likely to develop psyshosis. If you are worried, look at www.talkaboutcannabis.com Hypnosis and Thought Field Therapy can help here. The Institute of Psychiatry, at King's College, London, published details in July 09, on how THC, a major componant of skunk cannabis, led to psychosis developing in previously healthy people. Cocaine Reports in the media, in Feb 09, said that a 'line' of cocaine could be bought for as little as £1. On the surface this makes it look as though a cocaine habit could be cheaper than a smoking habit. But due to the nature of addiction, making the user wanting more and more to acheive the same high, this is a false assumption. Matthew has recently worked with a cocaine user who spent hundreds of pounds on a weekend habit, each week. Hypnosis can help. The home office published figures, in July 08, that there are over 3 million drug users in the UK. Harefuah, the journal of the Israel Medical Association, noted a 90% success rate in treating drug addicts with group hypnosis, in 2008.
A report by the National Drug Treatment Monitering System,in January 2009, said that the number of women seeking help for addiction to cocaine has doubled in the past two years. There are many health risks. cocaine can cause convulsions and heart failure and double the risk of stroke. It makes sleeping difficult and causes anxiety. Hypnotherapy and Thought Field Therapy can help. The Daily Mail repoorts, in June 09 that there has been a huge rise in the number of middle class women using cocaine on a regular basis, without realising the long term difficulties that this causes. Shopping Compulsion The Sunday Telegraph ran an article on how shopaholics were ruining their lives, in June 09. It doesn't have to be this way. Hypnosis can help. Weight control The Telegraph reports, in January 2012, on a survey suggesting that 54% of meals out now are takeaway. There follows a listing of all the calories found in a take away meal. If you want to get some weight control, call Effective Hypnosis. The government produced a report, in January 08, suggesting that three in five children, and the majority of adults will be clinically obese or overweight by 2050. This affects all of us. Lily Allen has reportedly lost three stones in weight through hypnotherapy. The Telegraph reports, in September 08, that obesity levels in men have now equalled those in women. It is never too late guys - hypnotherapy for weight control can be just as effective with men aswell as women. The Independant reports, in April 08, that children are scared by the government sponsered adverts on television linking a fairy cake to an early death. At EFFECTIVE HYPNOSIS we believe that there is nothing wrong with an occasional treat - it is an unhealthy diet and lifestyle that should be avoided. Hypnotherapy can help frame the mindset that enables the user to avoid this. The Mail reports, in May 09, that getting a good night's sleep is crucial to weight loss. A study at the University of Chicago, in 2005, had found that sleeplessness caused the two hormones associated with appetite - ghrelin and leptin - to go haywire. Since then, a study showed that not sleeping well caused people to consume an extra 1000 calories a day. Dr. Stanley, of Norwich University Hospital shows how tired people eat more sugar products, and how this can be avoided - see www.horlicks.co.uk The Telegraph reports, in August 09, that obesity levels have risen by 21%, in the last two years - that two thirds of men and two fifths of women are overweight due to overeating - hypnosis can help. The Daily Mail reports, in May 2010, that a lady lost a stone through hypnotic suggestion that she was exercising in her sleep - this technique is available as part of the effective hypnosis service. The Telegraph's reporter , Bryony Gordon, points out - in June 2010 - that it is bikini diet season 'with women across the country attempting to slim down for the holidays, as if their nearest and dearest might be shocked at the sight of them in a swimsuit' and bemoans the fact that men don't look after themselves so well. Effective Hypnosis has weight Loss programs that will suit both men and women. All they have to do is call. The Telegraph reports, in October 2011, that the boss of Spearmint Rhino clubs - John Specht - has suggested that students should pay for their degrees through becoming strippers at his clubs. We feel this is outrageous. It's going to encourage anorexia and destroy people's self confidence. Matthew took part in a debate on BBC Radio London saying that he had worked with a 'glamour dancer ' over weight loss , as she was terrified that she would lose business to skinnier girls. Under investigation , it seemed that the real problem was that she was taking cocaine, in order to stay awake. Part of the problem with this, is that she got a terrific rush whilst using it, but felt ravenously hungry whilst coming down - so ate anything she could. Matthew was able to get her off the cocaine, and she did lose some weight. For help - see the sections on weight loss and addictions. The Daily Mail reports, in October 2011, that a woman had gone to a hypnotherapist regarding addiction to diet cola, and had lost seven stone in weight since losing the addiction. The Telegraph reports, in November 2011, that the UK has the highest rate of obesity in Europe. Dont be a statistic - make the change. Hypnotic Gastric Band The Daily Mail reported, in May 09 that a lady had lost four stone due to a hypnotherapist convincing her that she had had a gastric band fitted. This means it is possible to experience the weight control benefits of a gastric band without the surgery. Going one better, the Metro reported, in April 2010, that a woman had lost 6 stones due to a hypnotist convincing her that she had had a gastric band operation - weight loss without the pain, Phone 01895 810772. The Daily Mail reports, in July 2010, that a woman - Emma Eveleigh-Anderson - had lost 5 stone with hypnotherapy for gastic band, shrinking from size 18 to size 8, she said " I found the whole process fairly effortless. I certainly don't feel as hungry as I used to do, even though I eat much less now". The Mail reports, in November 2011, that a woman has lost 5.5 stones in weight in the three months since she had the hypnotic gastric band treatment. The Daily Mail reports, in October 2010 that the founders of the hypnotic gastric band technique have published a book on using self hypnosis to get the desired results. We would like to wish them luck, but feel that actual hypnotic sessions will be far more effective. The hypnotic gastric band was featured on Channel 4's Embarrassing Fat Bodies on June 6 2011. Effective Hypnosis would like to announce that this technique has been adapted into our weight control programme. Janet Thompson, a hypnotherapist, and one of our Thought Field Therapy Mentors, appeared on Channel 4 on 17 July 2010, in a programme debating the benefits of hypnosis and TFT in tackling obesity, against personal training. Unfortunately much of it was spoiled by the need of the two opponents to dismiss each other ( and other weight loss methods ). Most of the methods we use were featured in the programme - hypnotherapy, compulsion blowout, TFT and positive suggestions. For a similar experience phone 01895 810772. The New Scientist reports, in September 2010, that junk food is as asddictive as hard drugs, quoting research dating as far back as 2001 that show the dopamine response in brain receptors. hypnotherapy can help you to release these chemicals naturally, with no side effects. The 2012 January edition of Spirit and Destiny magazine runs an article on a lady who lost 3.5 stones in weight with hypnotherapy. In December 2011 The Daily Mail reports on a woman who has lost 8 stones through gastric band hypnotherapy. They credit hypnotherapist Andrew Nelson - who has trained Matthew in the past. Eating Disorders
The Telegraph reports, in May 2010, that Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing is used for anorexics in Arizona's Sierra Tuscan campus. Effective Hypnosis is skilled in EMDR. Stress The Telegraph reports, in April 07, that 'Stress threatens worldwide epidemic of heart disease'. The study 'High Blood Pressure and Health Policy : Where We Are and Where We Need to Go Next' was presented to the European Parliament in Brussels. It says that a third of adults in Britain suffer from hypertension. It says that people are dying unecessarily because they refuse to make changes. However, here at EFFECTIVE HYPNOSIS, we take the view that an epidemic is something that is not preventable - and life- style choices, like smoking, high fat diets, excessive alcohol intake, and obesity are things that CAN be prevented through hypnosis. The Journal of Neuroscience reports, in March 08, that the effects of continued stress lead to memory loss. Just think how it could effect your professional and social life. The Sun reports, in January 08, that the age of 44 is the most depressing statistically. However, we at Effective Hypnosis feel that we can change your mood whatever age you are. The transformation you seek is within you. Hypnotherapy can help to bring it out. There were reports in the media, at the end of Feb 08, that the effectiveness of prozac was akin to the effectiveness of placebos. But what does this mean? According to David Hamilton, in his book 'It's the thought that counts', the placebo effect can be anything from 10 - 100%, so a placebo can be just as effective as a medical pill. In this study, placebo counted for 81%. This doesn't mean the drugs don't work, it means that the placebo effect is very high for anti depressants. The same brain changes were noted in MRI scans for those that took prozac, and those that took placebo. The resarch was a meta-analysis of fluoxetine(prozac), venlafixine(effexor), Nefazone(serzone), and paroxetine(Seroxat).. The power of the mind is considerable, and hypnotherapy is all about accessing the power of the human mind." When we take a daily tablet we take a tablet of hope and faith, and hope and faith heal us, producing real chemical change" (Dr. David Hamilton). There is 90% of the mind that is not normally used, and if we can tap into this, we have a tremendous potential for change. The Mental Health Foundation published a report in March 08 'The Boiling Point', bemoaning ther fact6 that one in three people know someone who has trouble controlling their anger, and that there seemed to be little or no service geared towards it. Hypnotherapy is an excellent way of helpingh people to change their personality, and control their anger. Depression The New Scientist ran an article, in September 08, stating that improvements had been noted in depressed people due to methods of slowing Heart Rate Variation ( HRV ). This has a tremendous implication for hypnotherapy. The Harvard Medical School published results, in 2008. stating that having a happy connection raised someone's chances of happiness by 9 per cent. Hypnotherapy can do a lot to take people to a state of happiness. The Telegraph reports, in January 09, that one in four middle aged women - aged from 45 to 64 - complain of stress or depression to their doctor. Does this mean that one in four middle aged women is prescribed anti depressants? Hypnotherapy and Thought Field Therapy can make a huge difference. The Guardian reports, in April 2010, that the recession is causing a surge in mental health problems. The research at Roehampton University suggests that, amoung people that lost their jos in 2009, 71% had suffered signs of depression, 55% signs of stress, and 52% signs of anxiety. Hypnotherapy can help. The Daily Mail reports, in July 2010, on Thought Field Therapy being used to treat depression. Some of the comments left on the website were very skeptical, but at effective hypnosis, we believe in TFT because we have used it, and results speak for themselves. The Telegraph reports, in April 2011, that the comedian Jack Dee tackles depression with hypnosis. Insomnia The Telegraph reports, in December 08, that less than seven hours sleep a night is a major heart risk. Research at the University of Chicago noticed a significant pattern here. The Daily Mail reports, in March 2010, on a survey by shopping channel QVC, regarding sleep deprivation. Causes of interrupted sleep were cited as - money worries, problems at work, familly troubles, and relationship issues. The Telegraph reports, in April 2010, that a new survey, by the Cambridge Weight Plan, had said that Britons are getting less sleep than they did three years ago. They suggest that lifestyle is a major factor, but also say that worries about finances or relationships kept people awake. 76% were having difficulty getting to sleep. See our Insomnia section for relief from sleeplessness. Evan Davis, presenter of Radio 4's today programme, uses hypnotherapy tapes in order for him to get sufficient sleep before getting up at 3.15am in time for his show- " I rarely get fifteen minutes into it before it knocking me into sleep" Daily Telegraph 23.6.2011 Research at the Mental Health Programme, in Israel, found hypnotherapy a significant help in helping people with combat induced Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Details were published in May 09. IBS The Daily Telegraph reports, in March 2010, that Gloucestershire Royal Hospital has had a 90% success rate in tackling Irritable Bowel Symptoms through use of hypnotherapy. Matthew has worked with IBS patients too, and welcomes referrals. The Daily Mail reports, in April 2010, that many internet advertised treatments for IBS amount to nothing. But if we take note of the Gloucestershire report above, we know the success of hypnosis. The Mail on Sunday in December 2011 recommends hypnotherapy for IBS symptoms. Hypnobirthing Matthew has had some experince here, although most women tend to go to a womn therapist - the Mail reported, in April 2010, that a woman had given a pain free birth after a male hypnotist had visited her in hospital. the next day the Mail countered this revalation by posting stories from women who had not found hypnobirthing useful. In his limited experience Matthew has found success. www.thebestof.co.uk voted Effective Hypnosis as the second most popular business in Ealing, the third most loved business in Hillinghdon, and in the top five alternative practitioners nationally, in Febuary 2011. Chest pains A CD of a home hypnotherapy programme is being prescribed to patients with severe non-cardiac chest pain (NCCP) in North Carolina. If this works in a three month trial, it may be taken up by other countries.
