Most people only consider hypnotherapy as being useful in smoking cessation and weight loss. But hypnotherapy can be very useful in promoting transformation in a wide variety of ways.  There are many other topics we are happy to be consulted on.  A few of these are listed here -

Self Confidence - If you have been feeling that you can't express yourslf, and your confidence is suffering as a result, hypnosis can retrain your mind.  You can become a new person through hypnosis. You can bypass your limiting beliefs and be ready to take on new suggestions.

Do you have trouble meeting people for the first time, and is social/ professional networking suffering as a result? Hypnosis could provide the answer. Do you fear rejection at interviews? Hypnosis can give you a renewed sense of confidence.

Through contacting the subconscious mind we can boost self esteem, building motivation, and through teaching self hypnosis skills we can provide  lifelong tools for self enhancement. We can train people to release those feelgood endorphins into their bodies, and feel fantastic all over. This can lead to physical body change.

Stress Response -  Today's world is geared towards stress, with the rushed pace of life. People who respond poorly to stress see their cholesterol levels rise, and risk heart disease. Stress also attracts cancer cells to grow.  Continued stressful situations tend to lead to memory loss. Hypnotherapy can form an important intervention.

Insomnia - A survey produced in 2008 suggested that 23 million people suffer from insomnia in the UK.  About 40% of us will suffer at least once in our lifetime. This can be dangerous for both the sufferer and those around him. Lack of sleep inhibits the immune system. Falling asleep at work and killing yourself, or someone else is the major cause of death in the workplace - according to Professor Horne the Loughborough Sleep Research Centre. Studies in America, at the  University of  North Carolina, have suggested that women suffer more  than men from bad sleep.  Dr. Edward Suarez said that it brings on high levels of distress, and feelings of hostility, depression and anger. Hypnosis can teach the skills necessary to get  an excellent nights sleep.

Emotional Freedom Techniques - EFT is a meridean therapy - it is based on the same principles that govern Reflexology and Accupuncture. Meridean therapies put forward the idea that all negative emotions are caused by a disruption in the body's energy system, and that through manipulation of energy points we can enable people to change the way they feel about something. EFT heals people on both physical and psychological levels, and this can take away addictions and cravings. Matthew often uses EFT in controlling addictions, and phobias.

Regression - Through regression in hypnosis we take people back to the root cause of their problems.  Once they are there, we can deal with these, though changing attitudes  and build a stronger character for the future.

Phobias and Panic Attacks - One in nine people have a phobia of some sort. One in twenty suffer a panic attack at some time in their life. The symptoms can be sweating, hyperventilation, pounding heart beat, tightness in the chest, , shaking and trembling,  a feeling of choking, tingling, hot and cold flushes, fainting, nauea, a sensation of unreality, fear of losing control, fear of dying, fear of going insane. Trauma, association, and avoidance trigger phobias.

The Telegraph reported in Jan.08 that research had been done in Israel , at the Wizeman Institute of Science, suggesting that two thirds of those tested forgot phobias, under hypnosis.

We are born with two fears. Fear of falling, and fear of loud noises. everything else is learned fear, and people can learn new responses. Hypnosis can help people to learn subconsciously how to prevent the thoughts and images that are triggering their anxiety, and to replace them with better responses. It works by reprogramming the mind to end anxiety and panic by tackling both the source and the symptoms. Learning to conquer phobias is about learning to react from the parasympathetic nervous system - a relaxed response - rather than the sympathetic nervous system - a fight or flight response. Neuro Linguistic Programming nearly always comes in. Past Life Regression sometimes comes in here.

Neuro Linguistic Programming changes submodalities, the minute parts of a phobia, so that the whole becomes less and less fearful - until it disappears.

Matthew has skills in Traumatic Incident  Recovery, and uses this technique with post traumatic stress.

EMDR is a very useful eye movement technique, that has been used with traumatised Vietnam Veterans. Combat - related Post -.Traumatic Stress Disorder can be a really dibilitating illness  Through a combination of  TIR, EFT, EMDR, NLP and hypnotherapy we can help to keep the 'demons' at bay.

A service for those with fear of flying is available. If you have always had the jitters since you first experienced turbulance, and spend every night of your holiday dreading the return trip, then why not give hypnosis a try? Fly without fear.

Pain Management - Matthew can teach an effective way for anyone to  control their pain - fast.  This can be invaluable in helping peple with deeply rooted conditions.

Sports Enhancement - A large part of achievement in sport is believing you can do it. This works like a self fulfilling prophesy.

Roger Bannister, the man who broke the four minute in the 1950's, said that it was easy once he had got his mind into a determined state. This set in process a group hypnosis - as many others were able to do it, once they beleived it was possible. Their attitudes had changed and their bodies responded.

Many of today's top sportsmen and women use sports psychology, including hypnosis, to give them advanced performance. Tangible physical processes occur in the brain and body as a result of the athlete's thinking process. These can cause a change in physical performance. Part of this is learning the skills of self hypnosis in order to reach the state of singlemindedness that Roger Bannister had. You too can become a winner.

Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus have use hypnosis for golf success. Jimmy Connors has used hypnosis for tennis success.

  Alcohol dependence -

 How much is too much? Are you worried that a relative is drinking too much?  When pleasure becomes a problem;

If - You can't stop drinking when you start( first to arrive at the party, last to leave)

    - You have to drink more and more to acheive the same effect

    - You make excuses for your drinking

    - You keep letting people down

    - You drink alone more than twice a week

One third of all violent incidents on air trips are alcohol related, this has led to many air rage prosecutions, and criminal records for those involved.

3,000 people a year are either killed or seriously injured due to alcohol related crashes.

A BMA survey concluded that 38% of the population is alcohol dependant - 8.2 million problem drinkers. They suggested that 20% of those presenting to GP's had a drinking problem, but that 98% of drinking problems are not identified through those GP's. Alcohol use can cause cancer of the throat, of the liver, and heart problems. It aggravates anxieties and is often linked to depression.

A recent survey found that alcohol related deaths  in the uk doubled between 1991 and 2005 - from 4,155 to , 8,386.

The Telegraph reported in Jan 08 that 500, 000 people a year are treated in hospital due to too much drinking. Hypnosis can help.

Of course, there is a huge difference between dependence and alcoholism and a hypnotherapist cannot make people change.  See www.edenlodgepractice.com . 63, 000 people are being treated for alcohol problems in 2007. Dependents cognitive functions suffer, but they can recover with 2 -5 years abstinence. With an alcoholic there is no cure for the addiction - it is either active or passive. Whilst a hypnotherapist can help people with preventing relapse, the motivation for change must come from them. Once they have this motivation - realising that they do have a problem, and resolving to do something about it, hypnosis may help them in stopping, and preventing relapse, but a conversion to some kind of new thinking will have great benefits in staying off - some find it in meditation, religious experience, cognitive behavioural work, Alcoholics Anonymous.

Hypnotherapy can teach ultra deep self hypnosis, to help people stay off. If a subject believes they have power, then they are in control. If a subject fills his/her mind with strength, then they have freedom from temptation.

If you feel that your son or daughter could benefit from controlling their alcohol intake, we would be happy to see them.
